All Level 1 books contain two pre-reading and two post reading activities.
Phonemic awareness, which is the ability to hear and manipulate spokenwords , is critical to reading success.
Each book contains a phonemic awareness activity to provide ongoing “training” for children in learning to hear and work with sounds. In the second pre-reading activity, the high frequency words, used within each story, are introduced.
Whether it be for guided reading groups or parental discussion, the post-reading activities provided at the back of each Level 1 story allow for further learning.
Through literal, inferential and evaluative questioning, children are given the opportunity to share and discuss what they have read and a vocabulary focus explicitly teaches a new word relating to each story.
